There are different ways to enjoy this historic stay in the heart of El Calafate, choose the one you like best.
Estancia 25 de Mayo is a half-day excursion where you visit this typical Patagonian ranch located very close to the center of El Calafate, highlighting its historical connection with the birth and growth of the city. The ranch covers 17,000 hectares of land stretching from the shores of Lake Argentino in the north to the border with Chile in the south. It is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the landscape at the foot of Cerro Calafate, breathing the purest Patagonian air.
After being picked up from your hotel in El Calafate at 5:30 PM, you will be welcomed at Estancia 25 de Mayo with fried pastries (you can also bring your own mate) while narrating the history of the ranch, the first settlers of Calafate, and how their activities developed at the beginning of the 20th century. A demonstration of the typical Patagonian activity of sheep herding with dogs will be conducted.
After the talk and sheep herding are finished, the tour continues with a walk around the ranch and along the Calafate Stream while visiting the old shearing shed and the pens. There, you will have a sheep shearing demonstration with scissors and also visit the organic garden that produces some of the vegetables used in the ranch's quincho for dinner.
After the tour of the ranch, you will be guided to the 'El Quincho' restaurant where dinner is served (according to the option purchased). For starters: traditional empanada and an appetizer; main course (grilled Patagonian lamb on the spit with chorizo, blood sausage, and organic garden salad); dessert is of choice.
What sets Estancia 25 de Mayo apart from other tourist ranches is that after dinner, you can enjoy a folk show and a tour of typical Argentine dances.
