Located on the Cristina Canal on the northwestern shore of Lake Argentino, Estancia Cristina is in the heart of “Los Glaciares National Park”. After a boat trip that you will remember forever, enjoy a 14 km trek through the Cañadón de los Fósiles, where you will be amazed with fossil remains of the last marine income.
Estancia Cristina Trekking combines a visit to Estancia Cristina trekking through the Cañadón de los Fósiles, a navigation to the Upsala Glacier area and a visit to the Upsala Viewpoint. You can enjoy unique views of that glacier from the famous viewpoint of the estancia, they will tour their lands in 4x4 vehicles and trek through an old glacial canyon. It is the only excursion in El Calafate that allows you to observe up close the front of the Upsala Glacier and its spectacular size while trekking through a unique place.
If you book the excursion with transfer from El Calafate, we will pick you up from 7:30 am. By your hotel and then go to Puerto de la Cruz located in Punta Bandera and 47 km from El Calafate. If they take the excursion from the Port of Punta Bandera, they must present themselves at 8:30 am.
The boat sets sail at 9:00 am. navigating through the North Arm of Lake Argentino until reaching the Upsala Channel, from where you can see the western front of the glacier in the distance surrounded by huge icebergs of various shapes. You will be able to enjoy sailing among icebergs and impressive mountainous landscapes and then embark on a boat ride to the Cristina Channel until you reach the ranch.
After disembarking, you will ascend in 4x4 vehicles through a landscape that until very recently was covered by glaciers and that has great geological interest. You will be able to enjoy from the Upsala Viewpoint a privileged view of the Eastern front of the Upsala Glacier, Guillermo Lake, Southern Patagonian Ice, the Murallón and Don Bosco Hills and the Andes Mountains.
From the inhabitant the trekking begins entering the Cañadón de los Fósiles, an area where a large concentration of fossils can be observed, vestiges of the last marine ingression and that have been exposed by glacial action. The trekking takes place for approximately 4 hours towards the return to Estancia Cristina, at a constant pace and having medium/high difficulty.
They will have lunch during the trekking in the Cañadón de los Fósiles. Upon returning to Estancia Cristina, they will embark again towards the Port of Punta Bandera, arriving in El Calafate at 7:30 p.m. approximately.
